In Focus | Radiohead

Since I'm getting back into the swing of things, I figured I'd start a new monthly feature of sharing whatever band I'm obsessing over. What better way to start than with Radiohead.

I love a lot of musicians. A lot. Just looking at my is daunting due to how many artists I listen to. Even though I have favourite bands and musicians, once in a while my brain decides to remember random ones and likes to go on a listening spree. It can be from ones that I listen to all the time, or ones that I haven't listened to in a while. Either way, I thought it would be cool to share with you guys what bands I've suddenly rekindled a loving affection for each month.

This month, it's Radiohead. If I'm being honest here, I haven't listen to a lot of Radiohead. I'd call myself a fan; more in the sense that I'm a fan of their music. My admiration of Radiohead is no where near the level I am with bands like Foo Fighters. But nevertheless, Radiohead are a band that I've listened to for quite a while, granted that I haven't actually listened to any of their albums other than a couple of songs off Pablo Honey ('Creep') and OK Computer ('No Surprises').

But there is one record I have listened to, and that's The Bends. I am obsessed with that album. The first song I listened to wasn't technically from the album, rather from the single to 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)'. I found that track after watching Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, thanks to an English lesson in secondary school when we were learning about Shakespeare and had a screening of it. That film hooked me onto that song, then it went all downhill from there towards my obsession with The Bends.

That album to me is just such a powerhouse of a record. It's the weirdest mix of alternative music that only Radiohead could compose. It's hard to lump it with any other bands and musicians releasing music at the same time, it's just Radiohead. It's always my go-to album whenever I need to chill and feel the urge to appreciate some alternative music for a while. Especially with the tracks 'The Bends', 'High and Dry', 'Just' and 'Fake Plastic Trees'. 'The Bends' is definitely my favourite Radiohead song, though.

The Bends isn't the only Radiohead composition that I'm obsessed with right now. Their few newest releases have caught my ears in the past month, especially 'Burn the Witch'. I had no idea that they were making new music (showing how much of a fan I am), and I found out after seeing the video for the song trending on YouTube. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first, but it has truly grown on me and I cannot stop listening to it. Or watching the video, even though it still creeps me out.

With the recent release of A Moon Shaped Pool, and my love of Radiohead, I'm definitely going to be delving into their discography for the rest of June.
