Single Review | Michael Jackson | 'Thriller' (Steve Aoki Midnight Hour Remix) (2017)

Released just in time for Halloween, the latest Michael Jackson compilation record comprises of Jackson’s spookiest hits, including ‘Thriller’, ‘Dirty Diana’, ‘Scream’, his collaboration with Rockwell on ‘Somebody’s Watching Me’ and the bonus megamix ‘Blood on the Dance Floor x Dangerous (The White Panda Mash-Up)’.

One of the best compositions from the record, however, his Steve Aoki’s remix of the seminal classic ‘Thriller’. Released as a separate entity, Aoki’s remix was released on September 29 along with the album. Aoki had a tough task of remixing one of pop music’s most legendary songs but has done so with the utmost respect.

The ‘Midnight Hour Remix’ balances the seminal tones of the original with a club/dance feel, building upon what Jackson had already laid down. All the callbacks are still there – yes, Vincent Price is still heard, along with the bassline – enabling ‘Thriller’ to evolve into something else entirely for the fateful day of Halloween.

Michael Jackson's Scream is out now via Epic Records. Listen to for Aoki's remix of 'Thriller' below.
